Who am I?
Hi! I’m Cathy, the face, hands and heart behind Lily Loves…
I learnt how to sew in August 2019 when my daughter Amelia was 1 month old because I wanted to make her comfortable and lasting clothes that would also fit over her cloth bum. I came across Grow With Me style clothes online and instantly fell in love with the idea, it aligns with my own values perfectly as I try to eliminate waste in my day to day life. Plus I had already experienced a month of heartache as she grew out of gorgeous wee clothes seemingly overnight. There had to be a better way, right?!
I come from a scientific and environmental background and the choices I make in my personal life play a large part in Lily Loves. The materials I choose are ones I would be comfortable putting my own daughter in (and I often do, how can I refuse such lovely things!) and are sourced as locally as possible, from other UK retailers. This is important to me to both support small businesses but also to reduce the Fabric’s airmiles. I take quite a lot of time selecting my fabrics and as a minimum it will be Oeko-Tex 100 standard and where possible contain organic cotton. It would be cheaper and easier to bulk buy fabrics from places like China but that goes against the ethos of Lily Loves and the way I live.
All of the items are clothbum friendly either by default or with some small tweaking so please do ask if you aren’t sure if something will be suitable. Reusable nappies are something I am passionate about so if you have any questions about them (whether you use them or not) please just ask, I love a nappy chat!
Orders are sent out in plastic-free or reused packaging, as nice as it is to receive things nicely wrapped with tissue paper and other little bits and pieces, it can slowly turn into Rowan Atkinson in Love Actually. Did you know that tissue paper can’t actually be recycled? Because of this I like to keep things simple and let your gorgeous items speak for themselves.
